More Coverage. More Protection. Same KC Reliability.

If you've ever tried to book a Conestoga trailer on short notice, you already know the problem: everybody wants one, and there aren't enough to go around.
Standard flatbeds are the go-to in the freight world - reliable, everywhere, and easy to book on short notice. Conestogas are a different story. They require specialized equipment that most carriers simply don't carry in their fleet, and that gap has left shippers scrambling whenever a load needs the loading flexibility of a flatbed and the weather protection of a dry van at the same time.
KC Logistics just closed that gap. We're proud to add Conestoga trailer service to our capacity - one more way we're building on 40+ years of asset-based reliability to give our customers options that have gotten harder and harder to find across the industry.
What Makes a Conestoga Different
A Conestoga is a specialized open-deck trailer built around a retractable, rolling tarp-and-frame system - essentially a flatbed with a built-in, weatherproof shell. Drivers can open the top and sides in minutes for crane or forklift loading, then slide the tarp closed to protect cargo from rain, road debris, and grime for the rest of the haul.
That combination solves three problems shippers run into with standard flatbed freight:
Efficiency. No more throwing and tying tarps by hand over standard flatbed freight. The Conestoga's tarp system retracts like an accordion, so drivers can open and close the trailer in minutes - cutting loading and dwell time significantly compared to securing a traditional flatbed tarp.
Protection: Fragile, high-value, or moisture-sensitive freight - machinery, polished lumber, finished goods - stays dry and shielded from road grime, without sacrificing the crane and forklift access that makes flatbeds practical in the first place.
Versatility: Cargo is still secured the traditional way, with straps and chains, but now comes with the kind of weatherproofing shippers usually only get from a dry van.

Why This Matters for Shippers
A standard flatbed still makes sense for a lot of freight. It's an open-deck trailer with no sides or roof, and it remains the industry's most available equipment for large or irregularly shaped loads that need to be loaded from above or the side.
But Conestogas fill a gap standard flatbeds can't close: weather and theft protection without giving up that same loading flexibility. The tradeoff is modest - the integrated metal frame and curtain system add a few thousand pounds of tare weight, which trims maximum payload slightly - a fair exchange for freight that can't afford to get wet, dirty, or walked off with in transit.
For most shippers, the real question was never whether a Conestoga made sense for a given load. It's whether you could find one. These trailers require more advance planning than standard flatbeds, and capacity has stayed tight across the industry.

Added to the KC Lineup
